Building work on a new care home for disabled ex-service men and women will begin in the new year.
An announcement that the Royal Star & Garter Homes would be moving from neighbouring Richmond to the corner of Langley Avenue in Surbiton was made in January this year.
The charity was later granted full planning permission for a three-storey building including underground parking and a contractor has now been selected to carry out the work.
The Royal Star & Garter Charity, started in Richmond, has been looking after disabled ex-service personnel since 1916.
Chief executive, Mike Barter, said: “We intend to become a long-lasting part of the Southborough and Surbiton community and we want to start as we mean to go on and be the best neighbour we possibly can during construction.
“We will stay in close contact with local residents over the coming months and I welcome them contacting me if anything is not clear.”
