Elmbridge is still attracting developers in the face of challenging marketing conditions.
Figures set out in the borough’s 2010/11 planning services annual monitoring report showed an increase in development activity.
There were 355 new dwellings built between April 2010 to March 2011, a 77 per cent increase on the previous year’s figure of 201 units.
The increase in development was reflected in the amount of contributions collected for community infrastructure, which went up from £986,906 in 2009/10 to £1,166,617 in 2010/11.
The council received a 2,145 planning applications in 2010/11.
Councillor Simon Dodsworth said: “Elmbridge continues to perform strongly in the face of difficult economic conditions and the continual monitoring of development related activity in the borough ensures we are in a position to respond quickly to any changes that may affect our resilience.”
