Croydon could have its first Hindu faith school after a meeting discussing plans for a new primary school in the borough.

The council is looking to establish a new school to ease the growing problem of school places as demand continues to rise.

It has allocated the Davidson Centre as the new location for the school and earlier in the year asked for bids from potential partners.

Three companies have put in bids: Oasis, which already runs two academies in Croydon, Lilac Sky, which run academies and schools across the country, and I-Foundation, which opened the first Hindu faith school in the country The public were invited to look at each candidate’s proposals at a meeting on December 7.

The new school would open in September 2012 with 120 reception places and would expand in stages.

The plans are open for six weeks for comments before going back to the council, with a decision expected in March 2012.
