A woman has dubbed her employers Scrooge after they asked her to pay for a prize turkey she ‘won’ at her work Christmas party raffle.
The woman, who has worked at Marks and Spencer’s Epsom branch for six years, couldn’t believe her luck when her £1 raffle ticket was picked following the staff Christmas lunch.
Her prize was perfect - a juicy turkey, just in time for Christmas.
The turkey was in the raffle because its packaging had been damaged preventing it from being sold at the full price of £50.
So she was stunned when penny-pinching managers asked her to stump-up a further £18 for the bird.
She turned down the generous offer and contacted the Epsom Guardian to voice her disappointment.
She said: “I was quite surprised because I rarely win anything.
“It was just a bit embarrassing because I was quite chuffed when I thought I had won it but I hadn’t.
“I was just a bit gobsmacked because the other people didn’t have to pay for their prizes.
“I was crying and laughing at the same time.
“They seemed to think it was excellent that I had won it and I had to pay for it and it was a good deal. But I didn’t think it was."
Marks and Spencer's press office refused to make any comment on what had happened.
