Surrey Police are launching a crackdown on drunken and violent behaviour this Christmas.

Operation Yuletide will run over the Christmas and New Year period and will see officers carrying out extra patrols in town centres including Epsom.

Surrey Police’s licensing officers and undercover Alcohol Enforcement Team (AET) will also be visiting licensed premises to ensure venues are not serving those who are underage or already drunk.

Superintendent Matt Bristow said: “Everyone has the right to enjoy a festive night out without intimidation or the fear of violence and our additional presence in the town centres have been planned to help ensure this is the case.

“There will be a robust approach to violent behaviour.

“Offenders risk arrest and a night in the cells, as well as being banned from pubs, bars and clubs in the area and a criminal record.”

Licensed premises are being asked to show their support by ensuring they operate responsibly and cautionary posters will be placed in pub and club washrooms, town centres, railway and bus stations.
