An intrepid adventurer who travelled around the world in a truck run off vegetable oil is preparing to sell his specially adapted vehicle on eBay.

Andy Pag, from Thornton Heath, converted a Mercedes campervan discovered in a junkyard to drive 30,000 miles through Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the USA all on cooking oil.

Originally planning a second trip through Africa with his biotruck, Mr Pag, 37, has decided to see it on to an owner prepared preserve its eco-uses.

He said: “I had hoped to give it to a charity to non-government organisation but I fear they would strip it out and convert it back to being a conventional bus. It’s like handing on a pet really, I am more worried about it going to a good home than how much I get for it.”

Living in Southern Spain with his partner Cristina, Mr Pag placed an advert on eBay for the truck on Friday December 10 asking for £4850 before Saturday December 17.

He said: “I’m not really expecting success on Ebay but it is getting it out there that it is for sale. I have had some interest from a guy in Portugal and also one in Spain who are interested in the concept so hopefully they’ll put in an offer, but it has enough fuel for me to drive it back to the UK if there is interest.”

Mr Pag admitted the truck, which he has been living out of, needs an MOT and tax having not returned to the UK in over a year.

He also points out it needs some repainting.

He said: ”I think that’s actually an advantage, spending some time doing it up is like a bonding session.

Should he sell the truck he and Cristina will fly to the USA to build an eco home in Oregon.

I haven’t thought about the actual moment of handing it over but it will be strange. I lived it in for three years so it could be a bit teary.”
