Commuters face a nightmare journey home after a man was killed after being hit by a train at South Croydon station.

All trains through East Croydon are currently suspended, with a fire at Brighton station causing further problems.

South Croydon was trending on Twitter as people tried to find alternative routes home.

A British Transport Police spokesman said the incident happened at 3.47pm and was not being treated as suspicious.

The man was hit by the 3.24 from Caterham to London Victoria.

A spokesman from National Rail said there was currently no estimate for a normal train service to resume.
