More than 150 older people prepared themselves for a supermarket sweep as Brooklands hosted a special Christmas shopping event.
The eager shoppers descended upon Tesco’s and Marks and Spencer, as volunteers provided support and assisted them in perusing the aisles.
The mayor and mayoress of Elmbridge, councillors John and Mary Sheldon, were there to join in on the Christmas spirit.
He said: “Christmas is traditionally a time when we look to help our neighbours. Everyone involved, be they shopper or volunteer, has really enjoyed themselves tonight, which is wonderful to see and is in the true spirit of Christmas.
“This annual event is one that we want to see grow and grow.”
Both stores provided raffle prizes, while Tesco supplied free tea, coffee and mince pies.
Buses from Elmbridge Council’s community transport service transported people to Brooklands and were joined by guests from Whiteley Village and Walton-on-Thames Charity.
