Notts County striker Lee Hughes has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault following an incident at a Croydon hotel.
Police were called to the hotel on Purley Way at 11.10pm on December 3 following allegations of a sexual assault on a woman.
The incident unfolded the night before Notts County were due to play Sutton United in an FA Cup second round tie at Gander Green Lane, shown live on ESPN, which Hughes did not feature in.
A 35-year-old man was arrested and taken to a South London police station.
He has been bailed until January pending further investigations.
A spokesman for Notts County said: "Notts County can confirm that the club are aware of an alleged incident involving one of our players at the team's hotel on Saturday, December 3.
"As this is a police matter, the club will be making no further comment on this incident."
