A man has been fined over £1,000 for dumping rubbish in a park.

Ashley Jeeves, 20, from Ewell, pleaded guilty to charges of fly tipping at Redhill Magistrates Court earlier this year after being prosecuted by Reigate and Banstead Council.

In December 2010 the council received reports of dumped rubbish in the car park of Nork Park, in Banstead, where items were discovered in black bags relating to a hairdressing salon in Epsom.

The council visited the salon and found it had recently been refurbished and that Mr Jeeves had been contracted to dispose of the rubbish.

Mr Jeeves was ordered to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work as part of a 12 month community order and fined £1,137.

Councillor Steve Farrer, executive member for safer communities, said: “This individual showed an utter disregard for the law and environment.

“He left us with little choice but to proceed with action through the courts. “We do not tolerate fly tipping.

“The removal of rubbish dumped on the borough’s streets costs the council thousands of pounds each year.

“We will seek to investigate any offences and prosecute people who continue to flout the law.”
