The writing is on the wall, or in this case on the pavement, for anti-social dog owners who do not clean up after their pets.

Epsom and Ewell Borough Council’s Ranger Service has begun trialling of a new initiative designed to reduce dog fouling in the borough.

‘Clean It Up’ messages have been stenciled at dog fouling black-spots throughout the borough in hope that the messages will remind dog-owners to act responsibly.

The council’s leisure committee chairman, Jan Mason, said: “More and more dog walkers are acting responsibly and this campaign is aimed at those who have not yet got the message.

“Not only does dog excrement look disgusting, it can also seriously affect people’s health, with young children most at risk.

“We want to promote a cleaner, greener borough, as well as offer helpful advice- which all contributes to making Epsom and Ewell a more beautiful place to live and visit.”
