Two Wandsworth women have been nominated for awards from The Prince’s Trust.

Wandsworth resident Georgia Hardie, 20, has been nominated for the trust’s breakthrough award, an accolade acknowledging those who acquire new skills in spite of significant barriers.

Ms. Hardie, who was made homelessness at the age of 11, and had to live secretly in a hostel for three years, was referred to The Prince’s Trust at 17.

After being signed up to the Get Into Construction program, Ms. Hardie travelled for three hours a day to a construction site where she learned skills including carpentry, plumbing and plastering. Upon completion of her course Ms Hardie was immediately offered an apprenticeship with Rydon construction.

She said: “Thanks to The Prince’s Trust I finally have a stable life. I am positive and optimistic about my future and I’ve found confidence in my abilities.”

Shereen Scott, 32, of Balham has been nominated for the RBS enterprise award, which recognises those who overcome obstacles to set up a sustainable business.

Mrs Scott, who now runs Everinessence, a beauty and holistic therapy salon in Balham, turned to charity for practical advice, mentoring and funding after struggling to find a job, despite her qualification as a beauty therapist.

The awards ceremony will take place at The Emirates Stadium on November 24.
