A team of scouts have been commended for their work in sprucing up an areas around the River Mole.

A group of 42 scouts and parents from ACS Cobham International School Boy Scouts of America Troop 184 repainted peeling railings at Riverhill, Cobham.

Councillor James Vickers noticed the hardworking scouts while stuck in a traffic jam, and said: “I really have taken my hat off to ACS Cobham on several occasions for their willing involvement and help they do within our local community, and this is yet another fine example of such willingness to make a contribution for the benefit of many in our local society.”

Starting at first light, the enthusiastic team of volunteers worked hard preparing the railings before sprucing them up with 15 litres of paint.

The project was led by scout Cameron Underhill to achieve the standard of Eagle Scout.

To get the award, he had to undertake a project that would have lasting value for the community and organise the whole event.

ACS Cobham scouts leader Wayne Wilcox said: “Cameron did a brilliant job with this project and we plan to continue to be involved with the Riverhill project in the future.”
