Two men have been sentenced to 30 years behind bars for executing a man outside Wandsworth prison.

Leon De St Aubin, 34, from Chelsea and Rupert Ross, 30, from Fulham, were both given life sentences for murdering Darcy-Austin Bruce on May 1, 2009.

Mr Austin-Bruce, 20, was shot five times by Ross in front of women and children in broad day light outside Wandsworth prison.

The pair posed as lawyers in smart suits and protected themselves in crash helmets.

They carried out their attack after Mr Austin-Bruce came out from visiting someone in the prison, fleeing on a stolen moped driven by De St Aubin.

The Old Bailey heard that Ross, who had previous convictions for theft and burglary, had a good education which was ruined by his involvement with drugs.

Defending Mr Stuart Trimmer said: "This is a depressing cycle of convictions that relate to drugs.

"He had a good education, a loving family. His mother spent time and resources to ensure he did well.

"Drugs blighted his life and his family's life, and those who have been taken."

De St Aubin worked for the London Fire Brigade, but lost his job when it was discovered he had a previous conviction for supplying heroin.

In his mitigation Mr Cairay Hughes said De St Aubin was trying to turn his life around and had put his past behind him.

Ross hung his head and wiped away tears with a tissue as the sentence was read out, and patted De St Aubin on the shoulder as they went down.

Sentencing, Judge Martin Stephens said the murder took place in front of women and children going about their daily lives.

He said: "It's been said in your defence that you have tried to put your lives in some sort of order.

"Your carried out a well planned execution of a man, this was a very well prepared and planned offence."
