A 13 day police operation across the borough over Halloween and Bonfire Night resulted in nine arrests for offences including GBH, robbery and possession of class A drugs.

Police stopped and searched 96 people in town centres, parks and transport hubs.

A further 52 people were stopped and asked to explain what they were doing and where they were going.

Only a few relatively minor incidents of anti social behaviour, such as throwing eggs and throwing fireworks, were reported to police during the operation which ran from October 24 - November 5.

Detective Chief Inspector Alan Chambers, who runs the Safer Neighbourhood community policing teams, said this was an effective, pro-active police operation which dealt promptly with criminal activity whilst keeping crime levels low during one of the busiest times in the policing calendar.

“Our aim was to put lots of uniformed officers on the streets at key locations at key times to deter any criminal activity or anti-social behaviour and to reassure the public and keep Sutton safe.

"Residents have been telling us how pleased they were to see us on patrol in local areas and at major fireworks events.”
