Police were called to an address in North Cheam yesterday after a man barricaded himself into his home.
Officers entered the premises off Gander Green Lane at around 2.30pm and talked the man down from the loft.
The man, aged in his early 50s, was detained under the Mental Health Act.
Duty officer, inspector Chris Riggs, of Sutton Police station, said: "Officers dealt with the situation swiftly and peacefully.”
A number of residents saw emergency services - including police vans - in the area at the time.
