Anyone looking for a true taste of Turkey here in south London should head for Cappadocia Ocakbasi, writes Mark Bielecki.

The restaurant, which is owned by Ali Isik, is well known for offering excellent service and good food at reasonable prices.

We were given an evening to remember with some excellent food offering new and subtle flavours.

Waiter Aytag Polat was there to greet us and offered us a selection of starters, including hummus, tarama, cacik (home-made yoghurt, cucumber, fresh mint, and garlic), acili ezme (spicy mixed tomato, garlic, onions, green pepper, cucumber, parsley and herbs) and saksuka (aubergine, green peppers, onions, tomato sauce with garlic). Although the weather was cold outside, this delicious combination of dishes evoked memories of warm summer holidays enjoying Mediterranean cuisine.

The main courses featured lamb kebabs, lamb chops, adana kebab, and izgara kofte, with various garlic and chilli sauces.

Chef Zeki Isik had conjured up a mouthwatering selection of marvellous food which was wonderfully presented.

My colleague, Carlie, rounded off her meal in true eastern style with Turkish delight covered in chocolate and served with a cup of Turkish tea.

The restaurant is perfect for an intimate dinner for two or a family celebration and also caters for weddings and birthdays, as well as offering a take-away service.

There is an extensive wine list with a choice of liqueurs.

The restaurant is closed on Mondays (except bank holidays) and open from noon until late, Tuesday to Sunday.
