Young people with Down’s syndrome can enjoy free karate lessons to help increase concentration and co-ordination.
Abel Karate launched the Elmbridge Inclusive Sport Project on September 29 and the karate class has proved popular with Paul Abel’s tuition, tailored to participants’ specific needs.
The club, for five to 11-year-olds, runs every Thursday from 5.30pm to 6pm at East Molesey Methodist Church.
The club is offering six weeks of free lessons for young people with Down’s syndrome in a bid to encourage new recruits.
Councillor Jan Fuller, said: “The sports development team have been able to hire a variety of instructors with the right skills and knowledge to work well with young people with additional needs thanks to funding given by Sport England.
“It has been a pleasure to have Paul Abel on board, as he has a natural ability to share his knowledge of karate with undaunted energy and patience”.
