An Esher hospice is urging people to ditch Richard Desmond’s new Health Lottery in favour of their own charity draws.

Princess Alice Hospice launched a new scratchcard this week to accompany its long-standing lottery.

Punters can win a top prize of £1,000 in the weekly draw, which puts 51p from each pound towards its services for the terminally ill.

There are 23 other prizes available and occasional super draws raise the prize money to £2,000.

The hospice relies on the £232,000 generated annually by ticket sales to maintain free care services across Surrey.

Lottery co-ordinator Clare Petrie came up with the idea of scratchcards.

She said: “They make great wedding favours, stocking fillers, secret Santa gifts and indeed gifts for any occasion.”

The cards will be available from Monday, October 10.

Scratchcards and lottery tickets cost £1 and are available from Princess Alice Hospice shops, the hospice reception or pah.org.uk.
