A man has been found guilty of attempted murder following a row at a poker tournament in Clapham.

Christopher Barnaby, 27, from Rita Road, Clapham, stabbed fellow player Lennox Peart four times during a game at The Beaufoy Bar, in Lavender Hill, on August 20 last year.

The row erupted when Barnaby asked Mr Peart, a barber by trade, why he was taking money from the table when he had not paid any money to play.

Barnaby then said to Peart, "barber boy, I don't want to hurt you" - but the victim said he thought the aggressor was just drunk and "talking rubbish".

As the pair left the building, at about 3am, and headed off in opposite directions, Barnaby ran to his car and grabbed a large knife.

Mr Peart was chased along Lavender Hill and was stabbed four times, one each to the shoulder, back, arm and abdomen, by Barnaby as he tried to escape.

The chase only ended when a taxi driver offered to take Mr Peart to hospital.

Barnaby could face a lengthy jail sentence when he is sentenced on October 31 at Kingston Crown Court.
