A group of intrepid fundraisers walked 20ft over 1,200 degree hot coals in a bid to raise £1,000.

A sponsored fire walk was held at the headquarters of engineering company, Atkins, in Epsom on Friday, October 7, to raise funds for The Studio (ADHD) Centre, based in Capel, which provides support for young people living with attention deficit, hyperactivity disorder (ADD/ADHD), asperger’s syndrome and other behavioural needs.

Kerry Price, HR adviser at the firm and who also took part in the walk, said: "We had this mind empowering session beforehand which we aren’t allowed to share the details of.

"It just felt warm like when you walk on warm sand.

"Your feet are a bit black when you finish and they are a bit tingly but, apart from that, the adrenaline thrill overtakes anything you might have felt.

"The scariest thing was that aluminium melts at 880 degrees and we were walking over coals that were over 400 degrees hotter than that.

"When you finish you feel fantastic."

Samba band Bloco-do-Sul also came along to beat out some rhythms to help the walkers on their way and get everyone in the party mood.

Karen Lody, volunteer fundraiser with the charity, who also took part in the event added: "The fire walk was an enlightening and awe-inspiring experience.

"Blaze, who organise the event, are exceptional in what they do and I would have no qualms in recommending fire walking to anyone.

"I would particularly like to thank Atkins for hosting the event and for their continuing support of The Studio."
