A fancy dress business gutted by fire in the August riots has celebrated its re-opening and being granted a concession in Debenhams, Clapham Junction store.

The Party Superstore, in Lavender Hill has re-opened in premises next door to the burnt-out shop where it is selling party goods.

The original shop is so badly damaged it may take two years to rebuild.

On Saturday, two months after the riots, a party was held in Debenhams to celebrate the re-opening with magicians, face painting and champagne.

The business has been granted an 18 month contract to sell fancy dress from the department store where it has been given a large area in the furniture department.

Duncan Mundell, managing director of The Party Superstore said: "It went very well, we were really busy. We had staff outside in fancy dress telling people where to go.

"The Debenhams managers have been brilliant. They gave us some of their staff and helped us with the tills when we were a little bit overwhelmed with customers. They have been exceptionally helpful."

Jenny Howes, deputy store manager of Debenhams Clapham Junction said: "We have worked hard with the owner to get him back to business and are absolutely delighted to welcome the Party Superstore to Debenhams Clapham Junction."

Mr Mundell is waiting for contracters to finalise the extent of the damage before rebuilding the original store can begin.

Mr Mundell also runs charity Street Kids Rescue and is investing Saturday's profits to the cause.

A documentary is being aired on BBC One next Monday at 7.30pm about the store's recovery.
