Surrey star Mark Ramprakash says he has been given a new lease of life following his switch from Middlesex.
The 31-year-old former England batsman is desperate for success at The Oval since quitting struggling Middlesex after 13 years last winter.
Ramprakash said: “I joined Surrey because they are a very progressive club.
“They have been county champions in the last two years and the signings of Ed Giddins and me show they are still ambitious.
“That is the difference with Middlesex, who didn't seem interested in signing anyone.
“For me that was demoralising. I am the type of person who wants to win competitions and trophies, and Surrey is the best place to do that.
“I want to work very, very hard this year and hopefully help Surrey to win more trophies.”
Ramprakash smashed 146 on his championship debut for Surrey against Kent at the Oval and is hoping to score enough runs to thrust himself back into the England spotlight and add to the 42 Test matches he has played so far.
He added: “Hopefully there is still a chance for me.
“If I keep improving and score runs then an opportunity might come along.
“If I can do that my name could be one of those in the hat when it comes to picking the Test squad.
“I am in good form and if I keep my run going then who knows what might happen.”
Away from the rigours, stresses and strains of county cricket, Ramprakash is a keen participant of other sports.
“I am having golf lessons at the moment,” he said.
“I also enjoy the odd game of snooker and I love spending time with my family.
“I have a three and a half year old daughter, Kara, who I spend a lot of time with. It keeps me busy.”
