By Councillor Richard Hilton, Merton Council's shadow education spokesman (Conservative, Lower Morden ward)
In response to the letter from Councillor Walker, the Conservative group have always supported the school expansion programme and we started it.
However this needs to be done in a way that works with local communities and with plans that are sympathetic to local needs.
There is limited room for further expansion of existing sites which is why we also continue to call for a new school.
After 18 months, Councillor Walker still refuses to instigate compulsory purchase of the identified site which his own officers have indicated would have led to a new school being open in 2014.
This week Labour and the other parties again rejected a new school showing short sightedness and a complete lack of ambition on the school places issue here in Merton.
