I wonder if any of your readers could help with a sort of historical treasure hunt?
In the 1950s, I was a junior founder member of the Surbiton Arts Group. A senior member was Arthur Horowicz, a professional artist and veteran of the Polish RAF. He exhibited with us a series of paintings of Polish peasants wearing typical black garments and caps. I especially yearned after one - a portrait of an old, wrinkled man delicately placing a ship in a bottle - of course, I couldn't afford it.
It's possible that an older reader remembers Arthur or the pictures. I'd be interested in any information or photographs.
