The police officer shot in Croydon on Friday night has been named locally as Wayne Stevens.
The officer, who is based in the Croydon Borough Response Team, was shot after police were called to Kingsdown Road in South Croydon at about 10pm on Friday, July 15.
They were called to reports of men acting suspiciously.
Officers arrested two men - but a third ran off causing police officers to give chase on foot.
As officers chased the man he opened fire and Wayne Stevens suffered a gunshot to the arm. He was taken to a south London hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
Demar Provan, 21, of no fixed abode and Adewale Ogunsanya, 22, of Streatham, have been charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and possession of ammunition.
They will appear in custody at Croydon Magistrates Court this morning.
