Girls from 5th Worcester Park Guides joined more than 4,000 other girls from across London and the South East of England as they walked across some of the world-famous bridges spanning the River Thames between Westminster and Tower Bridge last weekend.

The day was especially memorable for Hannah, Erin and Amy as they chose to make their promise as Guides in the middle of the Millennium Bridge – something they will always remember.

The event was designed to encourage walking as a way of exploring the outdoors and each girl collected stickers from every bridge they crossed and a medal once they had completed their walk.

As well as completing the challenge, the girls took in stunning views of the River Thames and dozens of other famous London landmarks, including City Hall, St Paul’s Cathedral and the London Eye.

‘It was great for the girls to see so many other Rainbows, Brownies and Guides on the route who had come from all over the South of England’ said Christine Wicks, County Commissioner for Greater London West who also walked the route with her Brownies from 8th Worcester Park. ‘It was brilliant to see so many girls from our County participating – girls from Cheam, Carshalton, Sutton, Teddington, Mitcham, New Malden as well as Worcester Park. Many, like my Brownies, walked from Westminster to Tower Bridge and then got a Clipper boat back – another new experience for many’.

Girlguiding UK enables girls and young women to experience adventure, voice their opinions and develop confidence in a safe, girl-only environment.
