Two-week old kittens found abandoned on the streets of south Wimbledon would not have survived on their own, an animal charity said.
A spokesman for the Blue Cross animal charity said she “dreaded to think” what would have happened to the dumped pets had they not been found.
The kittens were brought to the charity’s animal hospital in Colliers Wood after they were found in two different locations.
The first kitten was found at a warehouse in Abbey Road on June 27, and the second was discovered in the car park of the nearby Nelson Arms in Merton High Street the following day.
Staff at the centre said they thought the animals, which they have named Tiny and Keds, were from the same litter.
The pair have now been moved to the charity’s animal hospital in Victoria, where they are being hand-fed milk to build up their strength.
Becky Dawe, deputy head nurse at the Blue Cross hospital, said: “Kittens this young will not survive long on their own without their mother.
“They were discovered during one of the hottest weeks of the year and I dread to think what would have happened to them if they had not been found when they were.
“We would urge people never to dump unwanted animals and if they find themselves unable to look after their pet to always contact a rescue centre.”
She said the story showed the importance of cat owners ensuring their pet is neutered, to prevent the birth of more unwanted kittens.
