Today is the last chance for people wanting to have their say on the future of District Line services in the borough.

Transport for London (TfL) announced they were proposing to increase services on the Wimbledon branch of the line by removing the weekday service from Earls Court to Kensington Olympia and would allow additional trains to be run on the line.

It said the Olympia service is used by less than 2,500 people per weekday, but causes delay to all other District line services through Earl's Court station.

Improvements would allow capacity for more than 4,000 extra people from Wimbledon in the morning peak and would come into force in December.

A campaign to oppose these changes was started by Olympia residents and businesses but Putney MP Justine Greening is urging residents to support this proposal as part of her campaign to improve the District Line service and Wandsworth Council is also backing the moves.

The council's transport spokesman Councillor Russell King said: "Tube passengers are being asked if they want five additional rush hour trains every morning on the Wimbledon line. To us this is a no-brainer. These additional services would relieve pressure on some of the most overcrowded journeys on the entire tube network.

"But if local commuters want these improvements then they must speak out before Friday. There is a well organised campaign north of the river against these proposals so if local people do not actively take part in TfL's consultation these extra trains might never appear."

The closing date for this consultation is at 5pm today, July 15, and views can be expressed at www.tfl.gov.uk/corporate/projectsandschemes/20357.aspx
