Pubs and their drinkers are competing to raise the most cash for the Mayor’s two chosen charities.

The Mayor, Councillor Patrick Codd, set the challenge for patrons of Kingston pubs after deciding on his charities, which are Born Too Soon and Macmillan Cancer Support.

The pub that raises the most money for the organisations by the end of the year will receive a trophy commissioned by the Mayor and a certificate to display.

Born too soon offers support to parents with babies being cared for on the Neonatal Unit at Kingston Hospital and Macmillan Cancer Support helps improves the lives of people affected by cancer.

The Mayor said: "The patrons of our public houses have always been generous supporters of our charities and particularly imaginative fundraisers themselves.

“I am inviting our pubs to get behind the Mayoral events and challenging them to be creative and organise their own fundraising events.”

Michael Pearson, Landlord of The Canbury Arms in Kingston, has welcomed the challenge and is urging others to join in and support the charities.

The Canbury Arms already have plans for fundraising including quiz nights and golf days as well as offering a donation from every purchase of a chosen dish from their menu.
