A low tax zone for businesses could encourage growth in Croydon, according to London Assembly Member Steve O’Connell.
He is asking the Government to establish an Enterprise Zone in the borough to attract new jobs.
The zone would offer new businesses that located in Croydon town centre, and several major industrial sites, reduced business rates for five years to lure firms there.
The proposed zone would take in most of the main town centre, including in east and west Croydon stations, covering 19.2 hectares.
It would also take in several industrial sites, including large parts of Purely Way North and South and sites in Vulcan Way, Selsdon Road and Marlpit Lane which cover 138.1 hectares in total.
Mr O’Connell said: “Croydon would really benefit from the new jobs and businesses that an Enterprise Zone would attract. I urge the Government to approve the bid for a Croydon Enterprise Zone to bring more money to residents of the borough.”
“Our town is already an important centre for businesses in the south London but we want to continue to develop and encourage growth, meaning that Croydon is a natural place to put an Enterprise Zone.”
