A man was viciously attacked in the Purley station car park on June 26.

Transport detectives are searching for a man they want to talk to about the attack which happened just after 7pm.

Detective Constable Mark Agrippa, based at Croydon BTP station on Addiscombe Road, said: “The victim, a 51-year-old from Purley, had boarded the 18:36 Victoria to Caterham service and taken a seat in the first carriage.

“Whilst there he overhead a man, who had boarded the train at East Croydon with his girlfriend, having a heated argument on his mobile phone.

“As the victim got up to leave the train at Purley – wearing his headphones and listening to music – he was approached by the man, who accused him of telling him to shut up.

“The passenger ignored him and left the train, but the man caught up with him at the front of the station near to the taxi rank in the car park and punched him in the head several times, carrying on the assault as the victim fell to the ground.”

Detectives want to identify and talk to the man and woman in the images as they believe they may hold some key information. Officers believe the man could be called Liam.

“This was quite a vicious attack and the victim was left very shaken and distressed by what took place,” added DC Agrippa.

“As part of our investigation we’ve conducted a number of enquiries to try and trace the man responsible for this, including circulating images on police intelligence systems and speaking with local neighbourhood policing teams, but to no avail so far.”
