A motorist who was left fighting for his life after his car collided with a fully-loaded milk tanker on the M25 remains in a critically injured but stable condition.

The man, understood to be in his 20s, was cut from his convertible Audi by firefighters after the crash at about 3.50am on Sunday, July 10.

The man was rushed to St George's hospital in Tooting with multiple injuries, including a serious head injury.

The driver of the HGV sustained no injuries.

The incident happened on the clockwise section of the motorway between junction eight for Reigate and nine for Leatherhead.

Police are investigating what happened, but it is understood both vehicles were moving at the time of the crash.

Firefighters from Leatherhead and Reigate fire stations had to remove the Audi’s doors and roof to free the driver.

The four-lane carriageway was closed between junction eight and nine for well over an hour before two lanes were opened at about 5.30am.

The remaining two lanes were opened once the milk was decanted from the damaged tanker to another tanker, and the vehicles were recovered.

All lanes were opened by 10am yesterday.
