A dedicated Southfields Girl Guide leader has been given one of the top jobs in the movement - the chief commissioner for Girlguiding London and South East England.

Pip McKerrow, 56, of Melrose Road, who was both a Brownie and a Guide as a youngster, has started two Guide groups and a Rainbow group over the last 18 years.

She has lived in the borough for 32 years and is married with three children. She worked for many years as a primary school teacher and now volunteers for both Girlguiding UK and Victim Support.

Mrs McKerrow, who took up the post on July 11, said: "I'm delighted to have been appointed to this exciting and challenging role.

"It was a real honour to have been nominated for the position by my peers and I am extremely proud to become the Chief Commissioner for the region.

"I want to reach out to all our communities so Girlguiding London and South East England can allow as many girls and young women as possible to experience guiding - a place where they can grow in confidence, supported by a team of enthusiastic and experienced volunteers."
