The recent BBC interview with Tony Blair marks a new low in Labour's thinking.

For the PM to suggest it was possible to spot the families whose circumstances made it likely their children would grow up to be a "menace to society" is the nanny state taken to extreme.

As a councillor I have helped many parents on numerous issues. Key concerns are that their children are born in a local, clean hospital, grow up in safe neighbourhoods and are educated in good schools.

These empty threats to pregnant mothers are there to hide Labour's nine years of failure best exemplified by our local NHS. Serious underfunding is now leading to job losses and ward closures.

Furthermore there are two more Surrey A&E departments threatened with closure.

It is time for the Spelthorne Labour party to wake up and tell the Government they are wrong.
