Staines Town manager Steve Cordery's jinx against former club Hampton & Richmond continued when the Swans lost 3-2 on Saturday, but they bounced back on Tuesday with a 2-0 home victory over Tonbridge Angels.

A first win in 10 Ryman League matches - stretching back to last season - lifted Town two places to 15th in the table.

The Swans' second came via a penalty - there have now been spot kicks in their past five league games - won and converted by Ali Chaaban after 22 minutes.

Staines had gone ahead in the fifth minute through Mark Nwokeji, who beat three defenders before blasting the ball home.

Former Northampton Town, Stevenage, Barnet and Maidenhead United midfielder Dean Cracknell, signed earlier in the day from St Albans City, was impressive on debut.

Staines: Allaway, J Newton, McDonald (Risbridger, 84mins), Castle, Flitter (capt), K Warner, Scarlett, Cracknell, Nwokeji (James, 86mins), Telemaque (Maskell, 71mins), Chaaban.

The 3-2 defeat at the Beveree was the third game in a row the Swans had conceded a vital goal in the final seconds, and Cordery has now failed to win a single point on four visits to his old club, two with Staines.

Hampton had taken the lead after 13th minutes through Andy Cook, but goals from Errol Telemaque and Pete Castle put the visitors in front before the break.

Rob Paris had the Beavers back on level terms just after the hour-mark, before a late lapse again proved costly for Cordery's men.

Town keeper Shaun Allaway felled Ian Hodges as the striker tried to skirt around him. Allaway was promptly booked and could not prevent Lake firing the spot kick past him.

Staines: Allaway, J Newton, McDonald, Castle, Flitter (capt), Currie (Chaaban, 67mins), K Warner, Scarlett, Thompson (Risbridger, 43mins), Nwokeji, Telemaque (H Newton, 80mins).

The Swans have a busy week ahead, hosting Harrow Borough in the league Saturday (3pm) and Potters Bar Town in the League Cup (Westview Cup) on Tuesday (7.45pm), before visiting Malden Town in the FA Cup first qualifying round on Saturday week.

Staines Town women's side will be looking to repeat last year's remarkable run to the FA Women's Cup third round when they start with a preliminary round tie at home to Southampton-based Riverside Strikers on Sunday (2pm).

The youth team play Broxbourne Borough at home three days later.
