Leatherhead midfielder Gavin Bolger faces six weeks out with a suspected broken foot.

The in-form midfield former AFC Wimbledon star hobbled through Saturday's 2-0 FA Cup preliminary round triumph over Epsom & Ewell and returned from hospital the following day in plaster.

The Tanners have made a solid start to the Ryman League Division One South season based largely on a dominant midfield trio of Bolger, Stewart Holmes and James Greenaway.

But while boss Dave Harlow concedes Bolger's absence will be a huge blow, the Fetcham Grove boss is happy he has the strength in depth to cope.

"He has been one of the most impressive players for us and although I knew what he was capable of before he signed, I have been surprised how good he really is," he said.

"The biggest difference for me this year is we have got players here trying to prove to me what good players they are.

"There is a bit more strength in depth, which has created more stubbornness and determination on the field.

"Steve Sargent has been on the bench for the start of the season because he can't get a start and he has scored two in the last two games. It just shows what a bit of a kick up the backside can do."

Leatherhead currently sit sixth in the table after garnering seven points from their opening four league games.

They followed that up with a solid if unspectacular win at Merland Rise on Saturday.

Sargent, taking advantage of a rare start, applied a stunning finishing touch to a well-rehearsed training ground move at a corner, when he latched on to Marc Charles-Smith's stepover to lash the opener after 20 minutes.

Combined Counties League Premier Division strugglers Epsom proved no pushover and it wasn't until deep into the second half that Leatherhead extended their lead through Bolger's close-range effort.

Harlow's men face Chatham Town at Fetcham Grove this Saturday.

"I expect them to be a typically physical and direct Kent side, and if we can get another three points it will turn a good start to the season into a great one," added Harlow.
