Carshalton slumped to their third successive home defeat of the season against mid-table Heybridge who ran out comfortable winners with second half goals from Richard Jolly and Sean Marks.

The Robins started brightly enough with a long range effort by Jabbie which flew past the far post to the relief of the Swifts keeper, but it didn't take long for Swifts to get the measure of their opponents.

Carshalton were indebted to Seuke for a series of saves to deny Heybridge including a point blank save from Marks with the goal at his mercy.

New signing Gary Drewett, back at Colston Avenue after a lengthy spell at Bromley looked lively, but the Robins players look drained of confidence and struggled to retain possession throughout the half.

Having survived the first half to remain on level terms, the hope was that the Robins might improve playing down the slope for the second period.

A fine turn in midfield by Dundas created the chance for the hero of many a game last season to run at goal but his final shot passed the wrong side of the upright.

Swifts were still the dominant force, but it was ironic that both their goals when they eventually came were soft ones and due more to the home sides inadequacies than the quality of their own approach play.

On 57 minutes Paul Seuke, the hero of the first half, became the villain of the second when he let slip a long range effort and Richard Jolly was on hand outside the area to drive the loose ball home.

Marshall replaced the tiring Fontana but this had little effect on the Heybridge defence skilfully anchored by Stuart Nethercott and Swifts added a second when the left side of the Robins defence went missing and Sean Marks was on hand to stumble the low cross home.

Danny Gay in the visitors goal was largely unemployed until the seventy third minute when he was finally called into action to field low shots by Dundas and Cartledge, but again the Robins looked weak going forward desperately in need of an injection of skill and confidence to kick start their season.

An indifferent opening to the season is now becoming a serious cause for concern.
