Your correspondent who complained about receiving a parking ticket while parked in Sainsbury's car park seemed to think that this somehow involved the council. This is incorrect.

We do not enforce time limits or parking restrictions in privately owned car parks.

There is no disabled parking area because holders of disabled Blue Badges can leave their cars in any of its car parks for up to three hours without charge - just as long as they display their Blue Badge on the dashboard.

If your correspondent contacts Coral Kirkwood on 020 8871 8460 and gives her with the parking ticket reference number we will investigate this case fully.

Wandsworth is gaining an enviable reputation as a successful leader in disabled badge fraud investigation and prosecution.

Over the last 16 months, the council has investigated more than 530 cases of disabled parking fraud, and so far nearly 150 people have appeared in court and been convicted of 308 offences.

Effectively tackling the problem of able-bodied fraudsters with forged or stolen Blue Badges ensures that there are more spaces available for those motorists who are genuinely entitled to use them.
