200 hundred soldiers will be marching through Reigate this weekend in celebration of being awarded the Freedom of the Borough.

Second Battalion The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment, which marched through Epsom last week, will be repeating their performance in Reigate marching from the town hall at 12pm on Saturday June 25, which will coincide with National Armed Forces Day.

The troops will be welcomed and inspected by the Lord Lieutenant of Surrey, Mrs Sarah Goad JP and the Mayor of Reigate & Banstead, Councillor Brian Stead.

Colonel Steven Kilpatrick, deputy colonel of the regiment will also be in attendance.

The Regiment, known as ‘The Tigers’ will present a gift of a silver tiger to the town while the Mayor is due to present a framed Tatton Winter print from the council's art collection to the regiment.

The Mayor of Reigate & Banstead, Councillor Brian Stead said: “This is an important celebration to recognise the troops, their dedication and service to their country and to thank them for the sacrifices they and their families have made.

“A parade through the town enables both the council and the borough’s residents to jointly show our gratitude to all those men and women who have served their country.
