Further investigations will continue over the weekend into a hole which appeared in Victoria Road in Surbiton, causing part of the road to close.

A spokesman for Kingston Council said: "A hole has formed in the surface of Victoria Road, Surbiton at the junction with Brighton Road, uncovering a void in the structure of the carriageway.

“The Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames’ engineers have to carry out further investigations on the void during the weekend.

“The area above the void had been isolated but all traffic, including buses, can travel in Victoria Road in both directions at present.”

Voids are usually caused by ingress of moisture washing the ground away and are a common occurrence she said.
