Seven litter bins worth several thousands pounds have been stolen from various recycling locations.
Elmbridge Council has asked for information about the thefts, which took place in Station Road and Manor Road North in Hinchley Wood and Fleece Road and Sugden Road in Long Ditton.
The bins had only been installed in March, as part of a scheme by the council to encourage people to recycle while they are on the go.
A council spokesman said: “The theft of public property is a crime that directly impacts on our services and our residents and we’re asking for their help.
“We would ask members of the public to contact the police if they see anyone removing any litter bins, or if they have information about the whereabouts of the stolen bins.”
Anyone with any information should call the council environmental care helpline on 01372 474774, Surrey Police on 0845 1252222, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
