Families are being invited to jump aboard a steam train-inspired fun day.

The event at the Elmbridge Museum in Weybridge on Saturday, June 12, will celebrate the introduction of steam travel to the borough in the 19th century.

During the day, families will learn more about the form of transport, which revolutionised travel across the country, as well as get the opportunity to make their own model steam trains to take home.

The event is part of a series of free family days held at the museum on the second Saturday of each month.

Councillor Jan Fuller, portfolio holder for leisure at Elmbridge Council, said: “The museum’s family fun days offer the perfect opportunity to learn more about the borough's history, while having some fun together.

“This event is a great insight into an era where progress was going full steam ahead.”
