Train travellers were forced wait for up to four hours in carriages last night after someone tried to steal signalling cables.
Network Rail said that 60 trains coming out of London passing through Clapham Junction were stuck outside Woking in Surrey due to signalling problems after an attempted cable theft.
Further delays occurred after frustrated passengers got out of a train and went onto the tracks.
Trains started to move about 11pm.
