A Blondie tribute act are set to get the crowds going when they headline an upcoming fundraising concert.

Bootleg Blondie will play the Gig on the Rec concert at the Claygate Recreation Ground on Sunday, July 17.

The event has been organised by the Claygate Recreations Trust, which is raising money to build a new clubhouse on the land.

Led by Debbie Harry lookalike Debbie Harris, Bootleg Blondie will play all of the New York punk band’s hits, including Heart of Glass and Hanging on the Telephone.

Hinchley Wood songwriter Christopher Knowles and Claygate’s very own gospel group the Soul Runners will also play at the event.

Organiser Damian Ross said: “We hope that people will come and enjoy an evening of classic rock and two of Claygate’s local bands. We have an excellent line-up that should attract all ages and, if you like Blondie, you’ll love the Bootlegs.”

There will be a selection of food available and a Pimms tent and people are also being encouraged to bring their own picnics.

The trust have already raised £316,000 to build the clubhouse, which will replace the existing building on the recreation ground.

The new facility will be used by Claygate Cricket Club and the Claygate Royals FC and will also have a lounge area to accommodate wider community use.

Tickets for the concert, which starts at 6pm, cost £15, with free entry for children under 10. They are available from Rukshana or Gascoigne Billinghurst in Claygate, or from wegottickets.com.
