A man who died after being found with injuries in an alleyway has been named as Jacek Tuzimek.

The 41 year old was found with serious injuries at 8.50pm on Saturday, June 4, but despite efforts to save him he died in Kingston Hospital less than one hour later.

Police initially believed Mr Tuzimek had been the victim of an assault in the alleyway between Siddeley House and the Care-ful mobility shop in Canbury Park Road, Kingston, but are now treating his death as unexplained.

A post-mortem carried out the following day was inconclusive, and police are awaiting the results of toxicology tests, which could take up to four weeks.

Police said Mr Tuzimek was from eastern Europe but lived in the Kingston area, but believe he may have been homeless or in unsecure accommodation.

Matt Hatton, operational director of Kingston Churches Action on Homelessness, said: “It really is tough for eastern Europeans. If they have not got legal work for 12 months they are not entitled to benefits.

“We had a Polish guy we were working with and because he had not done any legal work for 12 months he could not get on the worker registration scheme and had no recourse to public funds.

“As soon as you are in that group you are more likely to be homeless.”

An inquest was opened and adjourned on Monday, June 6, and police have contacted next of kin.
