Second Battalion of the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment will parade through the streets of Epsom next week with bayonets fixed and colours flying as it celebrates being granted freedom of the borough last year.

The council granted the award last January in recognition of the regiment's exceptional contribution to the community. Members of the regiment are currently serving in Afghanistan and Cyprus having completed previous tours in Belize and the Falkland Islands.

Tuesday’s event will start with a presentation by the Mayor at 12 noon in the Market Place followed by a procession through the town centre accompanied by the regiment’s Minden Band and the drums platoon.

Brigadier Richard Dennis OBE, Colonel of the Regiment, will be taking the salute alongside the Mayor of Epsom and Ewell, Councillor Sheila Carlson.

Brigadier Roger Hood, Deputy Lieutenant of Surrey, will also be attending the ceremony. The parade will move down South Street continuing along the High Street past the clock tower to the junction of Upper High Street and Church Street.

It will then return back up the High Street before turning left into Ashley Road where it will end at the Ashley Centre car park.

There will be a 'rolling road closure' in the town centre on the day with roads reopened as the parade goes by to minimise disruption to traffic. At about 1.45pm the band will perform a short open air concert at Rosebery Park.
