A councillor has called for the decision on a set of Streatham Hub proposals to be postponed after it was claimed there were errors and omissions on consultation documents.

Liberal Democrat councillor Jeremy Clyne called for the postponement after Save Skating in Streatham campaigner Trevor Hutton complained about the changes made to the documents throughout consultation.

Mr Hutton said: “So many almost daily changes, due to a combination of mistakes by planning and the architects, have left this process in tatters.

With a deadline of June 7 for comments, this is ridiculous and needs to be publicised.”

Coun Clyne said: “The decision on this complex set of proposals should be postponed.

“The formal consultation process has been shambolic and the changes are not just matters of detail – they introduce significant internal and external alterations.

“While the store complex is getting bigger, taller and more prominent, the ice rink and leisure centre is becoming invisible, and no longer the planned landmark building serving as a gateway to the town centre – Streatham won’t be known any more for its ice rink but as Tesco Town.”

Councillor Nigel Haselden, the council’s cabinet member for regeneration, said: “This is a major regeneration scheme and with a project of this scale there were always likely to be some revisions as it is important to get things right, but none of the alterations being proposed significantly change the development.

“This is going to be a fantastic boost for Streatham, providing a new 1,000-seat ice rink, modern wet and dry sports facilities, 250 new homes and up to 600 jobs.”

He added issues would be addressed in the decision on the four planning applications at a planning committee meeting on Tuesday, June 14.
