A Leatherhead woman discovered she had a life-threatening condition after a check up at Specsavers.

Erin Teare, 20, called her local Specsavers branch after strange floating shapes repeatedly interrupted her vision.

Director of optometry, Graham Nicklin urged her to come for an eye examination.

He noticed signs of a potentially lethal condition and immediately referred her to her GP.

Miss Teare spent four days in hospital, undergoing MRI and CAT scans and treatments including a lumbar puncture procedure.

She was discovered to have Papilloedema, an optical condition that can cause blindness and even death by increasing pressure inside the skull.

“They [Specsavers] are always professional and extremely thorough,” said Miss Teare,”So I trusted Mr Nicklin’s judgement. The procedures were horrible but they saved my sight and most probably my life.”

Specsavers store manager Liz Cole said: “Graham is a highly respected optician and we have a lot of customers who ask for him specifically, I am very proud of all that he did for Erin.”
