Staff in Surrey are being asked to go green by taking part in the Surrey Cycle Challenge, starting next Monday.

Organised by Surrey County Council to celebrate National Bike Week, the two-week challenge will run from June 12 to June 25.

Employees will cycle to work and log their journeys on the Surrey Cycle Challenge website. The workplace with the highest proportion of staff registering a journey will win.

Everyone who participates will be entered into a prize draw to win a £600 Evans bike, with Evans vouchers for two runners-up.

The council's cabinet member for community safety, Councillor Kay Hammond, said: “The challenge is a chance for residents to enjoy Surrey’s sights, whilst keeping fit and doing their bit for the environment.”

Surrey will be in the cycling spotlight next year when it hosts the 2012 Olympic road race and time trial.
